How Local Warehousing Can Enhance Delivery Speed for E-commerce in Nepal

In Nepal, delivery speed is decided less by your courier and more by where your stock is sitting when the order arrives. A parcel that starts 5 km from the buyer arrives tomorrow. The same parcel starting in Kathmandu for a buyer in Biratnagar takes days, costs more, and is far more likely to be refused on arrival.

Why distance costs more than time

Long-distance delivery in Nepal is not simply slower. It compounds:

Every extra day between order and doorstep raises the chance you pay twice and earn nothing.

What local warehousing means in practice

It does not require building anything. In most cases it means holding a small amount of your fastest-moving stock in a second location — a partner's shop, a small rented room, a third-party fulfilment provider, or your own second outlet — in the region where you already get consistent orders.

Let the orders tell you where

Do not guess. Pull the last six months of orders and group them by city. If Pokhara is 12% of your orders and every one takes four days, that is your first location. Regional demand you already serve badly is the cheapest place to improve.

Stock the few things, not everything

A regional location should carry your top-selling items only — often the top 20 SKUs cover most orders. Everything else ships from the main store. You get most of the speed benefit for a fraction of the inventory cost.

The requirement: one stock view

Two locations without a shared view of stock creates a worse problem than it solves: you sell from a location that is empty, or you buy more of something you already have sitting in the other place. Each location needs its own count, and you need to see both in one screen, with the system deciding which location fulfils an order.

What speed buys you

The short version

Look at where your orders actually come from, place a small stock of your bestsellers near the strongest region, keep both locations visible in one stock view, and let the nearest location fulfil. Speed in Nepali e-commerce is mostly a geography decision.
