If your accountant keeps your books in Tally, you might wonder whether you need any other software at all. Tally is built to produce correct books and VAT returns. That is a different job from billing customers at the counter, taking online orders and knowing what is left on the shelf.
This guide compares TallyPrime and Saauzi at the time of writing (September 2026): what each is for, how the costs work, how businesses use both, and when Tally alone is all you need. The examples lean on Nepal but apply across South Asia.
Accounting software and an ERP solve different jobs
Accounting software answers "what happened, in the books?" It records vouchers, keeps ledgers and prepares statutory returns. Its main user is an accountant, usually working after the fact, often at month-end.
A small-business ERP answers "what is happening right now?" It is where the sale is made, the stock goes down and the cash comes in. Its users are you, your cashier and whoever receives stock. If the term is new, our plain-English guide to ERP for small businesses covers the basics.
Neither job replaces the other. The real question is which one is causing you trouble today.
What Tally does well
Tally (TallyPrime) is accounting-first software, and it is very good at that job. It handles full accounting, inventory vouchers, VAT and GST, and a deep set of reports. In Nepal it ships with VAT configuration that includes the IRD-prescribed return formats, a big reason so many Nepali accountants trust it.
It comes as Silver (single user) or Gold (multi-user), each available as a perpetual or rental licence. It is desktop-first; cloud access usually comes through a hosting provider. If your accountant already runs your books in Tally, they may rightly want to keep doing so.
What Saauzi does: runs the business day
Saauzi is an all-in-one ERP: a suite of business apps covering point of sale, eCommerce, inventory, cashbook and more, on one platform. It runs in any browser on a laptop, tablet or phone, with no implementation project. The apps share one product catalog, one stock and one book, so a sale at the counter or online reduces stock everywhere and posts to Cashbook automatically.
- Counter billing: search or barcode billing, discounts, split payments across cash and wallet, and VAT/PAN-ready bills printed or sent as a digital receipt. POS keeps billing offline and syncs when you are back online. See our guide to printing VAT invoices and bills from your POS in Nepal.
- Online orders: a branded, mobile-first store sharing the POS catalog and stock, accepting eSewa, Khalti, cards and cash on delivery.
- Live stock across outlets: multiple outlets from one account, with per-outlet stock and sales rolling up into a single view, a low-stock list and stock adjustments with history.
- Purchases and supplier payments: record purchases, keep supplier records, track what you have paid suppliers and see each product's stock history.
- A daily-reconciled Cashbook: a digital khata for income, expenses and transfers across cash, bank and wallet accounts such as eSewa and Khalti. Count the drawer, match the book and see any difference the same day.
One limit matters: Saauzi Cashbook is not full accounting software. It does not keep double-entry books or file VAT returns. It keeps your daily money straight and gives you clean exports for your accountant.
Saauzi vs Tally at a glance
| What you need | Tally (TallyPrime) | Saauzi |
|---|---|---|
| Built for | The accountant: full books, vouchers, statutory returns | The shop floor: counter, online orders, stock, daily cash |
| Full accounting and VAT returns | Yes; in Nepal, VAT configuration with IRD-prescribed return formats | No; Cashbook is not full accounting, and Saauzi does not file VAT returns |
| Inventory | Inventory vouchers and reports | Live stock across outlets and the online store, low-stock list, adjustments with history |
| Counter billing and online store | Accounting-first; ask a local Tally partner what suits your counter | POS with offline billing and VAT/PAN-ready bills, plus an online store taking eSewa, Khalti, cards and cash on delivery |
| Where it runs | Desktop-first; cloud access usually via a hosting provider | Any browser on a laptop, tablet or phone |
| How you pay | Silver or Gold licence, perpetual or rental; sold through local partners in Nepal | First app free forever; NPR 1,500 (US$20) per user/month for every app; no commission on sales |
The cost model: a licence vs a per-user subscription
Tally is a licence. At the time of writing, the Indian list price for TallyPrime Gold is about ₹67,500 + GST one-time, plus an annual renewal of about ₹13,500 + GST. In Nepal it is sold through local partners and prices vary, so ask a local Tally partner for a current quote. Rental is an option if you would rather not pay upfront.
Saauzi is a subscription. Your first app is free forever. One flat subscription unlocks every app: NPR 1,500 per user/month or NPR 12,000 per user/year, or internationally US$20 per user/month or US$200 per user/year, with no commission on sales. Details are on the Saauzi pricing page.
A hypothetical example: two counter users on annual billing cost 2 × NPR 12,000 = NPR 24,000 a year (or US$400 internationally), covering POS, the online store, inventory and Cashbook. If an outside accountant already runs Tally for your books, you may not need a Tally licence of your own. Prices for both vary by country, plan and billing period, so check current figures before deciding.
Using both: Saauzi for the day, exports for the accountant
Many businesses settle on a simple split: Tally stays with the accountant, and the counter, online store and daily cash run in Saauzi.
- During the day, counter and online sales update stock and post to Cashbook.
- At closing, you count the drawer and reconcile it in Cashbook, so a shortfall shows up the same day, not at month-end.
- Purchases and supplier payments are recorded as stock arrives and bills are paid.
- At month-end, you hand your accountant clean exports from Cashbook, backed by Saauzi's sales, purchase and supplier reports. They post the books and prepare VAT returns in Tally.
Saauzi has no Tally integration, so nothing syncs automatically. The hand-off is the exports.
When Tally alone is enough
Tally alone is probably all you need when:
- You sell mainly to a handful of business customers, with few counter sales and no online store.
- You run one location and stock moves slowly enough that vouchers keep up easily.
- Your main worry is accurate books, VAT returns and audit readiness, not billing speed or stock visibility.
- Your accountant works inside the business, enters transactions daily and is happy with the setup.
In those cases, another system mostly adds work. Saauzi earns its place when the daily operation is where things break: counter queues, patchy internet, online orders selling stock you no longer have, outlets you cannot see at once, or a drawer that never matches the book. And if you need full accounting, manufacturing or HR in a single suite, compare Saauzi vs Odoo for small businesses and Saauzi vs Zoho for growing shops; both of those suites include formal accounting.
FAQ
Is Saauzi a Tally alternative?
Only partly. Saauzi runs your counter, store and stock, but it does not replace Tally's full accounting or VAT returns, so businesses that use Tally for their books usually keep it.
Can Saauzi file my VAT return?
No. Saauzi prints VAT/PAN-ready bills but does not file VAT returns. Your accountant prepares them, and Tally's Nepal VAT configuration includes the IRD-prescribed formats.
Does Saauzi sync with Tally?
No, there is no Tally integration. Saauzi gives you clean exports from Cashbook, which your accountant uses to post entries in Tally.
What is the difference between accounting software and an ERP?
Accounting software records the financial result: ledgers, vouchers and returns. An ERP runs the operation behind it: sales, stock, purchases and daily cash, shared so nothing is entered twice.
Does Saauzi keep working when the internet goes down?
Yes. POS keeps billing offline and syncs your sales once the connection returns.
If Tally keeps your books but the shop floor still runs on paper, start with the app that hurts most: POS, the online store or Cashbook. Your first app is free forever, so you can start with one Saauzi app free and hand your accountant cleaner numbers next month.
